review jack black shea butter and vitamin e lip balm

Is your man always stealing your shower gel or use your hand cream while you’re not looking? Now you can return the favour. Steal a tube of Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25. This stuff is the bomb.

For starters, it comes in 11 different flavours, including sweet Black Cherry and citrusy Lemon & Shea Butter. But if your lips are chapped or on the dry side, stick to the original Shea Butter & Vitamin E.

That’s the one I’m talking about now. Here’s why it’s my fave:

What’s In Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25?

PETROLATUM

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 may proudly boast to contain shea butter, but it barely has a few drops of it. Instead, its very moisturising action is due to Petrolatum. There’s a whooping 40.2% of it here!

Wait, isn’t petrolatum dangerous? Is Black Jack trying to kills us? Of course not!

Petrolatum is derived from oil, but it undergoes a strict purification process that gets rids of all the impurities and toxic stuff in it. The result, cosmetic grade petrolatum, is completely safe, harmless, and very moisturising.

It works by forming a film on the lips that prevents moisture from evaporating. But there’s more. It can block some UVA and UVB rays too!

UV FILTERS

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 promises to protect your pout from the sun. But does it deliver? Mmmm.

At first sight, it seems so. It uses two common UV filters that work by absorbing UV rays and turning them into a less damaging form of energy (heat):

This combination works – to an extent. Usually, you need more than one UVB filter to provide adequate sun protection. Plus, when Octinoxate is exposed to sunlight, it degrades both itself and avobenzone.

Translation: it doesn’t give you the best sun protection, but it’s better than no sun protection at all. And reapply it often!

P.S. If you’re pregnant, consult your doctor before using avobenzone.

Texture

Its texture reminds me of vaseline, only quite lightweight and not greasy. It doesn’t completely absorbs into the skin, yet it doesn’t feel heavy on. It’s comfortable, and has a hint of shine too.

Fragrance

Sweet vanilla (tastes like it, too).

How To Use It

Apply generously 15 minutes you leave the house. Reapply as needed.

Performance & Personal Opinion

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 is one of my fave winter lips. The thick texture is so incredibly moisturising, that as soon as I apply it, my lips instantly feel softer and smoother.

The moisture lasts. With most lip balms, my lips feel dry and parched after a couple of hours. This keeps my lips moisturised for hours and hours.

In winter, when I spend most of my time indoors away from direct sunlight, I reapply it only two or three times during the day.

I do prefer to use something lighter in the summer, when I don’t have to worry about my lips getting chapped (this is great at preventing that, by the way). But if I did use it in the hotter months too, I’d reapply it every couple of hours to make the most of the SPF.

Talking about chapped lips, this helps heal them faster too. Petrolatum keeps water in, making sure your lips stay well hydrated. And it creates a barrier that protects them from harsh weather and everything else that could aggravate them and make your chapped lips worse.
